Any suggestions on how to get my beagle to stop peeing in her crate?

We've tried everything to get our 4 mth old beagle pup to stop peeing in her crate but nothing works. It kind of defeats the purpose of crate training.
She is doing most of her business in the crate after we put her in to leave to go somewhere - we watched her on numerous times. We take her outside before we put her in. Also, the crate is so small that she is barely fitting so the crate size has nothing to do with it. She barely fits into it the way it is, making it smaller will only allow her to stand the entire time she is in there.

If all else fails, take her out as soon as she wakes up. When she starts to get sleepy take her outside to use potty. Give her time to use it outside. She will sooner or later squat to do her business. You gotta have patience. You can usually tell when a dog is about to pee or even poop. When they are playing with you, and puppies will hang around you because they are learning there enviroment and they feel safe with you, so when they all of the sudden wanders off or turn from you, and you see her sniffin hurry and get her and take her outside to do her business. Now at nights you do need her in her crate. The crate you are keeping her in does it have a wire floor so the waste can fall below? Also she will want to be comfortable. I would not place a blanket in there on the floor she will tinkle on it. Best thing to do, if space permitted, would be get a box like those plastic kitty litter ones and place her blanket in it. That way she can hop in it to sleep. If you keep her in there a really long time she will probably end up playing and dumping the box over and there again using potty it. Your gonna have to check her often during the next few weeks. At least untill she gets the hang of your everyday life. Slip ups happen, but just try to get a schedule going for her now.

If she is being left too long in it, she will relieve herself in it if she has to. Most dogs will not relieve themselves in the space they sleep in or spend a lot of time in. If you aren't leaving her too long and you think she is doing this on purpose, you will probably need to find a good dog trainer or behaviorist. We had a basenji that soiled her crate on purpose then would spread it around. She was psycho. At least half the litter was eventually put down. We didn't put her down but we did give her to a rescue program. I'd try a trainer. Good luck!

I would say that maybe the crate is a little too large.. For proper crate training, the crate needs to be only large enough for the dog to turn around and lay down… that's it, if the crate is any larger than the animal has the room to pee and still not get in to it. they usually don't want to pee or poop where they sleep. If that is not the case with you, then I would suggest to contact your vet. I had a puppy one time who did the same thing and we had the right size crate. they tested my dogs urine and she had diabetes insipidus, which is a disorder where the kidneys are unable to concentrate urine and she ended up having to go constantly, so it wasn't her fault.. there is no cure and she died at 1 year of age. I hope that is not the case with your pup. but I felt that any information I have might be helpful to you.. Good luck and take care.

I had the same problem! I talked to my dog's vet and he suggested putting a box in the crate making it smaller. Then if the dog peed it would have to lay in it. Dogs like laying in their own waste as much as people do, so eventually they will whine to let you know they have to go. Later on they will be able to make it through the night and you will be able to make the crate gradually bigger.
Hope this helps it worked for me!

I also have a 4 mth old beagle puppy. She did the same thing. But we broke her with leaving a little food in her crate because dogs are not supposed to pee or poop in a place they eat. Good luck! Also the crate size may be too big
