How can I find a good home for my beagle?
My beagle is 4 years old and I have raised him from puppyhood. Unfortunately, I am a full time student and work a lot and must be away from home for many hours a day. My beagle is very attached and he cannot be left alone for more than a few hours without howling nonstop. I feel bad because I try to give him as much attention and love as I can, but I want to be able to have my own life too. Also, I have tried very hard to train him to be more calm, but nothing seems to work. I feel that it would be better for him and for me for him to find a new home where he could receive more attention that he needs. I am afraid to give him up because I don't know who I can trust to take care of him. I am afraid to use craigslist and I don't know what is the best way to go about finding him a new home. What should i do?

Contact Beagle Rescue, or the breeder you bought him from.

I know it is difficult, and you might needa pay much but this is one best solution: Keep it next to your computer, buy a webcam and install it there. Connect it to yours before leaving, and say 'hi' when you get the chance. Also give it food and spend more time with your puppy while you are free,

If you can't take care of your dog, please contact breed rescue. Please do NOT advertise on craigslist or in the paper!
I give you credit for realizing that you can't properly provide for your dog's needs. Many dogs such as yours end up in shelters or at the pound, and too many of those go on to be euthanized.
I'm sorry that things didn't work out for you and your dog, but the best thing you can do for your dog at this point is contact beagle rescue in your area. You should also realize that beagles are among the most difficult dogs to train, and maybe a professional trainer will be able to make some progress with your dog.
You may have to pay a fee to surrender your dog to a breed rescue, but I hope you'll consider that a small price to pay in exchange for knowing that your dog will end up with a good family.
I wish you the best, and I know this is not an easy decision for you. Thank you for considering what is best for your dog, and I'm sure that, in the future, you will be in a better situation for owning a dog, and you will be a caring and responsible dog-owner. Good Luck to you.

Separation problems are hard to treat and few new owners would want to deal with them. If he has problems and you do not want to take the time to deal with them then do the poor suffering dog a favor and put him to sleep. Wait until you have a reasonable schedule to get a dog, no dog wants to be left alone for many hours, dogs are a time consuming commitment. Too much attention is what helps cause separation anxiety so a home where someone gives him more of the wrong attention will start him on a trip to the pound. Few rescues will take a dog with such problems. I have fostered dogs with separation anxiety and even with training, drugs and rehabbing it is a long road and not always successful. Many times dogs that are rehomed have it because they can not stand the stress of moving so he would only get worse.
